Ecumenical School for Dialogue in Lviv 2020

"Ukraine at crossroad between West and East:

geopolitical, social and religious dimensions"

 

English-Speaking School

at the Institute of Ecumenical Studies (Ukrainian Catholic University, Lviv, Ukraine)

When: August 30 - September 11, 2020.

Where: Ukrainian Catholic University (Lviv, Ukraine) + visits to Kyiv and Western Ukraine.

Participants: Students and young researchers interested in theology, philosophy, humanities, politics, history and reconciliation.

Working language: English.

Organized by: Institute of Ecumenical Studies (Ukrainian Catholic University).

Credits: 4 ECTS Credits.

Goal:

 

- To study key political, social and religious processes happening in Ukraine and around the region;

- To introduce various aspects of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine (geopolitical, ethnic, religious, fake-news, hybrid war);

- To investigate the inter-denominational experience of the 2014 Maidan Revolution (The revolution of Dignity) and its impact on the dialogue and cooperation within broader society;

- To study the ecumenical situation in Ukraine, marked by the challenges of the inter-Orthodox unity, and its link to the creation of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the subsequent withdrawal of Russia from the official Catholic-Orthodox dialogue;

- To evaluate Eastern Christian contributions to the field of ecumenism and peacebuilding;

- To search for creative proposals in order to deal with the phenomenon of hybrid wars and cultivate an atmosphere with different levels of trust: between the Churches, societies and states;

- To foster an understanding of Ukraine and its neighbours, in order to understand Europe better, by visiting different communities, and observing insider perspectives.

ESD’ study program consists of combination of different types of educational activities:

- lectures

- round tables

- presentations

- discussions

- workshops

- cultural visits

- city-tours and excursions


Students, while participating at the school and at the ESD’s seminars, will receive 4 ECTS Credits issued by the Institute of Ecumenical Studies of UCU.
