2016-07-26 13:15

The theme of this year's social forum – Migration issues: a challenge for Ukraine. Representatives of the Lviv City Council, Lviv Regional State Administration, National University "Lviv Polytechnic", Lviv city center of social services for families, children and youth during the meeting got acquainted with the previous program of the ESW, with the events to take place throughout the week and expressed recommendations on filling of the Forum.

According to President of Institute of Ecumenical Studies, Dr. Iwan Dacko, the theme of the 9th Ecumenical Social Week is relevant and especially important today. "I emphasize on the Ukrainian dimension of the issue of migrants. We need to pay attention to the Ukrainian problems of refugees: Europeans need to know what is happening in Ukraine and to understand that migrants are present not only in the Muslim dimension, but also in the Christian" – stressed Fr. Dr. Iwan Dacko.

"Military actions in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, occupation of the Crimea forced many Ukrainians to flee their homes. Internally displaced persons – one of the categories that need help and attention from society. The war in Syria, terrorist attacks in Europe are also causes of migration wave, the crisis, which the modern world has to do with. The governments of Ukraine and Europe must demonstrate support through the introduction and adaptation to the needs for resettlement, health, education and employment of refugees and internally displaced persons. During the time of the ESW’s preparation a special attention is also paid to the role of Churches in the process of reconciliation and overcoming the consequences of war. Actually, the 9th ESW will become a platform where with joint efforts we will seek mechanisms for the resolution of today's crisis" – outlined the concept of the Forum Iryna Kitura, Coordinator of the 9th ESW.

The first event within the 9th Ecumenical Social Week will become conducted on March 4, in Lviv the International Conference "Peacekeeping role of Churches: ecumenical cooperation for the sake of social harmony and reconciliation" together with the Philosophy and Theological Faculty at UCU, the Institute of Ecumenical Studies at UCU, NU "Lviv Polytechnic" and European Society for Catholic theology.
