A roundtable "Partnership between authorities and civic organizations for the benefit of the cities` community"

The purpose of the session was to exchange experience and technologies of partnerships effectively realized in the U.S.A. and Ukraine. During the roundtable there was presented the experience of cooperation between the U.S.A cities and civic organizations and also the cooperation between local authorities of the city of Lviv and non-profit organizations.

Ihor Lukashevsky, head of public partnership of the Lviv City Council shared experience of the competition for social and cultural projects and, for example, told about the Dzvin organization which proposed a project to help children with hearing impairments.

The honored guests of the event were: Dave Williams, State and Federal Relations of the Association of Washington Cities (Seattle, Washington), Paul Stewart, Deputy Director (Mayor) on urban planning (in Kirkland, Washington), Mark Byerneki, Head of the city administration (Dekalb, Illinois), Marcia Johnson Blanco, co-director of the Voting Rights Project in the lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under law (Washington).

Dave Williams presented the Association of Washington Cities, cooperation with universities, civic organizations and educators. And Mark Byerneki spoke abot public transportation for the elderly, shelters for homeless people created in his city of Dekalb. And all this happened thanks to the cooperation of local authorities with civic organizations.

Each speaker's speech was accompanied by a lively discussion. This exchange of experience was informative and useful for the event participants.

The organizers of the roundtable were: the Lviv City Council Administration "Secretariat of the Council", the Institute of Ecumenical Studies of the Ukrainian Catholic University and the Democracy and Law Fund.
