2011-11-07 17:00

This year, a textbook "Essentials of Christian Ethics" for the 8th grade pupils was published in publishing house "Svit". The publication was accomplished with the support of the Institute of Ecumenical Studies at the Ukrainian Catholic University and the Missionary Relief Organization "Kerk in Actie" (the Netherlands).

The book was prepared by H. Sokhan` in co-authorship with Ihor Husakov. It was already the third textbook of the author. Topics of the edition are devoted to God's commandments which are the moral guide in human life. The textbook considers guidelines concerning the relationship with God and neighbor, and the commandment of love. It acquaints pupils with the essentials of Christian values, gives them certain guidance and fosters a sense of responsibility.

The handbook was elaborated according to the teaching program of "Essentials of Christian Ethics for the 1st-11th Grades", approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

We remind that long back in June 2005, the Lviv regional council decided to continue teaching the subject "Christian Ethics" at schools in the Lviv region. Due to the lack of literature on the subject such initiatives are necessary for pupils and teachers. The compilers and authors intend to continue working on new handbooks.

Note:

Since 2010 the Institute of Ecumenical Studies has initiated writing and printing textbooks in the essentials of Christian ethics. The implementation of the idea continues realizing in cooperation with the Commission on the matters of teaching "Christian Ethics and Education", which for many years is working at the Department of Education and Science of the Lviv state regional administration. In writing textbooks the Institute involves authors, consultants, educators, scholars and priests of various confessions.

Last year, the first textbook was published from the cycle of educational and methodical literature in Christian ethics, which started the IES. This is a book by Halyna Dobosh "I live and learn in the family," a handbook for the 2d grade of secondary schools, published in "Svit".
