An introductory session for students of DMPES

From 9 to 21 August 2010, an introductory session before the beginning of the distance learning course at DMPES was held. Thirteen students traveled to UCU from different parts of Ukraine and attended three intensive courses on the history of the Church in Ukraine, Christian ethics, and public relations for churches and religious organizations. During the session, numerous meetings and discussions were held.

The students had the opportunity to talk with Myroslav Marynovych, UCU’s vice rector for university mission, and Oleh Turiy, UCU’s vice rector for research. A meeting with Rabbi Siva Feinerman was held in dialogue format, sharing the rabbi’s experience and knowledge. The students of DMPES also visited the Bible Society, where they learned about its founders and the development of ecumenical projects and biblical initiatives.

The students had an opportunity to learn about IES projects, including the history and development of the ESW, the competition “Reporters of Hope in Ukraine” and “The Common Date of Easter.” At the end of the session, there was a meeting with the director of the IES, Antoine Arjakovsky. He shared his experience of participating in various ecumenical events and conferences with the students and presented today’s interdisciplinary approach to ecumenism.
