On a sign of unity

2019-01-31 14:30

On Thursday, January 24, on the initiative of the Institute of Ecumenical Studies a common prayer, which was attended by Christians of different denominations was held at the Philosophy and Theology Faculty of UCU. The prayer took place within the framework of the World Prayer Week for Christian Unity.

The prayer was led by Fr. Bohdan Prakh, Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University. He emphasized the ecumenical principles of UCU as an open academic Christian community. Fr. Yurii Zhuk-Hordynskyi, a clergyman of the Cathedral of the Intercession (Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate - the Orthodox Church of Ukraine), in the main word noticed the importance of unifying processes in the Ukrainian Orthodoxy and thanked other Christian communities for solidarity and support. The prayer was also attended by Fr. Vasyl Sahan (Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church – Orthodox Church of Ukraine), Pastor Volodymyr Bilyk (Christian Church "Source of Life"), Fr. Tomash Milo (Roman Catholic Church), Deacon Armen Akogyan (Armenian Apostolic Church), Fr. Ihor Petsiukh (Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church), and many other people who are not indifferent to the problem of separation between the Churches.

Fr. Roman Fihas of the Institute of Ecumenical Studies stressed that Lord shows us many signs of unity, worth paying attention to. The 100th anniversary of the act of unification of Ukraine, the historic markable event of receiving of autocephaly by the Ukrainian Orthodox Churche and other positive changes give us hope that the difficult and painful process of uniting Christians in Ukraine is moving forward.

The event ended with a passionate performance by the seminary group "SophiBand", as well as friendly communication between the participants of the event.
