Cooperation of Government, Public Organizations and Church

The authorities, churches and NGOs shared their experiences of cooperation. People of Sumy got acquainted with Lviv initiatives and presented their own projects.

In particular, Andriy Sadovy, Mayor of Lviv, said: “We are ready not only to help and actively cooperate with Sumy people having gained a positive experience in the development of our city. It is important that these centers are successful in the west and east, north and south of Ukraine”.

Vasil Kosiv, Deputy Mayor of Humanitarian Affairs presented the work of the social and cultural sphere, emphasizing: “... if we in Lviv have been successful in a particular area, it is only in cooperation with NGOs and Lviv community as a whole”.

Serhiy Panchenko, Deputy Mayor of Sumy outlined the achievements and problems of cooperation of the Sumy City Council with NGOs, having proposed solutions to urgent issues and urged NGOs to cooperate with the city.

The coordinator of the Ecumenical Social Week, Mariya Kandyba presented five-year achievements of the Ukrainian public forum “Ecumenical Social Week” in inter-sectoral cooperation in the implementation of social initiatives.

Non-governmental organizations such as “Samopomich” (Lviv), the Center for Support and Development of the Family “Kalynove Hrono” (Sumy) and the Sumy Oblast Association of Christian Teachers also introduced their projects.

Round table participants also raised the issue of spiritual education of the younger generation, the involvement of churches to implement social initiatives and constructive inter-confessional dialogue and cooperation.

The event was held on the initiative of the Institute of Ecumenical Studies at the Ukrainian Catholic University within the framework of the project National Network of Ecumenical Social Week and Lviv City Days in Sumy
