Cambridge Consultation of Faith and Order Commission

3-5 September 2008 in Cambridge took place the Consultation of Faith and Order Commission, that is preparing a package of background material, several pages from Fourth Faith and Order World Conference in Montreal in 1963 on Tradition and traditions, several pages from Faith and Order Commission meeting in Bristol in 1967 on Patristics Studies from an Ecumenical Viewpoint and a page from the Minutes of the Faith and Order Standing Commission Meeting in Crans-Montana last year.

Kyiv— On the occasion of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus and at the request of the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), the Institute of Church History and Institute of Ecumenical Studies of the Ukrainian Catholic University in cooperation with the National University Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, the Ukrainian Christian Academic Society, and the National Reserve St. Sophia of Kyiv are holding an international scholarly conference “The Kyivan church: Ecclesial tradition – historiographic problem – ecumenical perspective” from 11 to 14 September 2008 in the Museum of the National University Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

New Network for Ecumenical Theological Education

in Eastern and Central Europe

Some 37 participants joined in a major conference on the future of ecumenical theological education in Eastern and Central Europe in Sambata de Sus Monastery (Romania) from 24 to 28 September 2008 which was organized by the program on Ecumenical Theological Education (ETE) of WCC and the Conference of European Churches (CEC) in cooperation with Volos Academy (Greece). Leading representatives of institutions of theological education, ecumenical institutes and theological educators coming together in order to share experiences in ecumenical learning in this region included participants from Belarus, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Greece, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia, Switzerland and Ukraine, representing the following Church Traditions: Greek-Catholic, Hussite, Lutheran, Orthodox, Reformed and Roman-Catholic.

Sources of Tolerance Exhibit Opens in Ternopil

ERNOPIL – Yulia Smilyanska, director of the Institute of Judaism, told about the exhibit on Sources of Tolerance in Ternopil.
 
24 stands, set up in the building of city public school #24, introduce the subject of tolerance and the people who have contributed to it in Ukraine. A large part of the exhibit is devoted to religious tolerance, telling of the activities of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky, head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the first half of the 20th century; of the father and son Oleksandr and Oleksii Glagolev, Orthodox priests from Kyiv; and of the well-known academic Sergii Averintzev. 10 volunteers, from the upper grades of public school #24, serve as guides for this non-profit event, which will continue until February 14th.
